"Nearing Home"

He rides alone ,down memory lane.
Each pedal stroke a sunlit sepia scene.
His boyhood pals on bikes, some on handlebars, freewheeling past these same gates and boggy fields.
Skimming stones in the nearby lake.
Youthful days with bold dreams, laughter shared and ever-changing skies.
His spirit is still young but his body betrays.
 Old hands worn strong and rough by work.
Every pedal push brings him nearer.
Tasting the tea and scone bread in his mouth, where he will rest   at the fireside.
A quiet place to sit and dream .
